Hop On Pop's Bio

Rising from the ashes of the unheralded (and virtually unknown) pop band, Sub Rosa, Todd Leiter-Weintraub valiantly set out upon his less-than-remarkable career as a solo artist. After playing Tuesday nights all over the city of Chicago, and recording demos on a beat-up 4-track recorder in an apartment in Chicago’s still-iffy Humboldt Park neighborhood, Todd sent a demo CD to Spade Kitty records, who agreed to release his first record. The one catch: it wasn’t the record he had already made. So Todd looked to recruit musicians who shared his vision. He found them in the old Sub Rosa rhythm section of David Kling (drums) and Tim Ferguson (bass). But one piece was missing. Finally that piece was found, as Spade Kitty label honcho Matt Walters was recruited to fondle the keys. After more than a year of sporadic rehearsals and occasional gigs, the band entered Chicago’s Überstudio to record their debut. Mark Schwarz (Chamber Strings, Freakwater, Smoking Popes) manned the board as the band cavorted about and played with arrangements until they were satisfied with the results. As Drawn By Ethan, Age 2 was released in April, 2004 to favorable press and much adulation from the band members’ mommies and daddies. The band is currently rehearsing in a different incarnation (Red Plastic Buddah), to record an EP of bassist’s Tim Ferguson’s compositions. And Todd is writing songs for the follow-up to Ethan.
