Conveniently located in the heart of River North and steps from Chicago's famed Theater District, Rosebud Trattoria is a hit with locals and tourists alike. The idea behind the "Rosebud Trattoria concept" is to find the best ingredients possible and deliver them fresh from the market to the customers table at a moderate price. The result is a Roman inspired trattoria with a genuine Chicago balance. The unique menu is unmatched by other restaurants in the city, serving the finest Italian artisan meats and cheeses, house made specialties such as Mama's Meatballs served with traditional Sunday Salad, generous portions of pasta and Roman style pizzas with toppings such as fresh fennel sausage and roasted asparagus. A whimsical children's menu makes this restaurant the perfect choice for the entire family.

Have now been to Ballo three separate times for dinner, and I am looking forward to my next visit.
First off, if you are looking for a stuffy place this isn't the spot for you. Ballo is a fun restaurant not at all pretentious.
The food is top notch. The menu changes daily, and the kitchen is willing to make something up for you even if you don't see your choice on the menu. Nice touch. I have had everything from lasagna, chicken with a pesto sauce, to various other pasta dishes. All very good and prepared well.
Portions are ridiculously large so make sure you don't go overboard on appetizers. The desserts are also enormous, but who isn't willing to splurge on dessert?
I would definitely recommend Ballo to anyone looking for a fun casual spot.

Our waitress Amy was terrible. She was distracted, unattentive, and verry rude. She should be working at ihop. In fact, I've recieved better service at ihop. She needs to be fired immediately.
Pros: food was ok
Cons: amy
food, good. if you have patience...

we were staying in the hampton inn and suites (which is conjoined to this restaurant) and decided, based on an ad in the elevator claiming it was "family friendly" and that the 2 kids were screaming about being famished, that we should eat there ( we have a 1 and 5 year old). the kids' menu did the job - with the usual italian kid fare: pizza, mac and cheese, spaghetti - and the food we did get was good, with the exception of an $8 dry-as-the-desert piece of cake. it was the service that was unbelievable. our waitress - and i use that term generously - took 15 mins to tell us that the bottle of wine we'd ordered was not available. this was at 630pm on a wednesday, not when the place was even half full or when her attention would be split amongst 10-odd tables. she also got both adult orders wrong once, and then my order (the daily special mind you) wrong again. i was informed it was "computer glitch" and the meal i ordered would be out in 15 minutes, my kids' food had been delivered and devoured and we were now tetering on children meltdown. 15 mins was an eternity given i'd ordered an hour ago. what we did get - a massive caeser salad (complete with anchovies!!) for like $7 and a huge potion of tortellini for $18 - was quite good. however, kid friendly - not so much. loud bar scene. linen table clothes. servers that didnt recognize you dont deliver trays of hot food to a 1 year old. for more patient singles or couples who were not navigating nap schedules and the fact they didnt offer crayons with the menus, again, the food is good. but dont get tricked into thinking this is any semblance of a "family" restaurant.
Great for lunch or dinner - loved the spaghetti and meatball

This is place is great for dinner or lunch. For dinner it?s a great spot for a date or a group. It has a nice vibe, great service and great Italian food. I recently went there for lunch and asked the waiter what he recommended. He strongly suggested the spaghetti and meatball if I was spaghetti lover. I?m glad I took his recommendation. I had an enormous meatball in the middle and a very healthy portion of spaghetti. I couldn?t finish everything but it was excellent. Also, the service was highly professional and friendly.
